7 Reasons #84 Should Stay
Jul 26th

Editor’s Note: There’s been a lot of discussion amongst fans whether it’s in the comments, or forums or Twitter or things like that which state the Leafs should trade Mikhail Grabovski, and that he’s expendable with the acquisitions of guys like Kris Versteeg, or that he can be packaged with Tomas Kaberle for a greater return or things like that. This is a post I made way back in April, one of my first here at LHQ, stating why we should keep Grabovski, at least for one more season. Pretty much all of the points still stand. Enjoy.
Whether it’s TSN’s Off-Season Game Plan or just another thread on the HF Boards, the consensus is that Mikhail Grabovski could be shipped out of town. But why?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he’s the greatest offensive stud or an answer to any position longterm, I don’t think he’s going to score 30 goals or dish 50 assists, I don’t think he has any shot at ever topping 55 points in a season. I don’t really like his cap hit, his contract, his attitude or his ethic. I don’t like his defense, his rushes or even his hair. But put all those negatives aside, and Mikhail Grabovski is a guy who could be integral in helping the Maple Leafs reach the playoffs next season. How?

My Five Outrageous Predictions
Jul 24th
Well, since I am clearly the only person still writing on this site anymore, I thought I would make up a totally unique idea, unfounded by any previous member of this website, and list off five predictions I have for the Leafs next season. They could be good or bad, but we’re Leafs fans, we’re pessimists, so really don’t expect much to cheer about (not in this post anyways).
Without further ado, here they are:
Relax.
Jul 20th

So if you’re reading this site and have no clue about what happened yesterday, you’re either a liar or really, really need to diversify your viewing of websites. As the other 99.9% of you know, Ilya Kovalchuk signed a deal with the Devils that brings him to Chelios-esque age when its done, and Simon Gagne was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Matt Walker (a fifth of Jeff Finger at half the Salary) and a 4th round pick. Really, the only person on Tampa’s roster with mixed emotions on the deal appears to be, of all people, Steven Stamkos, but that’s because Walker was his roommate for road games.
Quite honestly, neither of these stories were really shocking – as much as I was trying to lead the masses into believing the additions of Kovalchuk or Gagne were just want this team needed – and I still believe that, it was pretty evident that the Leafs were front runners in neither, with Kovalchuk’s decision ultimately being between New Jersey and Los Angeles, and Gagne being a race between Tampa Bay and… Los Angeles. While the Kings are shedding a silent tear right now, it looks as if the only people who are shocked and/or disappointed in how things went in Toronto are the fans, not the actual management.
Colby Revisited
Jul 20th

On July 1st 2010 Brian Burke and Co flexed their proverbial management muscles and inked versatile grinder Colby Armstrong to a blah blah blah blah blah. Great, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to the point.
As most of you know I try to keep my articles on the shorter side, just because well, reading a lot can get…boring. Uh, anyways, that means I’m gonna try and keep this article short and get my point across in a number of brief paragraphs, so again, let’s get on with the show.
When Colby Armstrong initially signed with us I was disappointed for a number of reasons: whether it was the fact that we were paying a guy who had just tallied up 29 points three million dollars, whether it was the fact that we were giving him that money for three years, whether it was the fact that he’s a right-winger or whether it was the fact our cap space was slowly diminishing, it really doesn’t matter. None of the reasons I hated the Colby Armstrong signing matter anymore, because guess what: I don’t hate it anymore.
The Kovalchuk Signing and YOU!
Jul 19th
Wake up everybody something has finally happened in the NHL, and it’s not the Oilers naming another crappy old defenseman to a leadership position (that was last week, Congrats Steve Smith). Instead, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The most exciting thing to happen in pro hockey ever, Kovalchuk announced he’s going to re-sign in New Jersey. WOOOOOO! Since it was just a two horse race the only team dealing with disappointment today should be the L.A. Kings. Sadly any hope of Kovalchuk becoming a Leaf waved goodbye to Toronto fans a long time ago. I mean, why would the Leafs be interested in a 40 goal scorer, he’s Russian! The fact that I will see my 4 month old nephew go off to college by the time his contract ends doesn’t make this any less of a bitter pill to swallow. Unless, somehow there was another player capable of scoring 40 goals available, short term and cheaper. Enter Simon Gagne. More >
