My Five Outrageous Predictions
Jul 23rd

Well, its late July. Nobody’s signing contracts, and training camp hasn’t started yet. The fascination with rookie camp is at its low point until it begins its merger with training camp hype, and there are no decent players that are rumored to be on the market (like, legitimate rumors, not the “OMG GUY ISN’T SIGNED YET HE MUST BE UNHAPPY” ones). Hell, its so slow that I looked to HFBoards in the middle of the night yesterday, saw a thread about Boyd Devereaux signing with the Leafs on the first page, said to myself “makes sense”, and went to lie down without realizing that the post was from 2006, and that someone found the thread 4 years later to bash him for scoring a that 82nd game hat trick, baiting many people into believing he signed last night, myself included.
A Game Of Kovalchuk
Jul 5th

As much as this isn’t directly related to the Leafs anymore, it still kind of is. Ilya Kovalchuk is a fantastic hockey player. Wait, let me rephrase that, Ilya Kovalchuk is a great offensive hockey player and a superstar goalscorer. In his 8 NHL seasons and 621 games played, the tallied 338 goals and 304 assists (642 points). That puts his NHL average at about 1.03 points per game. He is a fantastic skater who possesses great stride, speed and is one of the most influential powerplay performers I have ever seen. That’s mainly due to his offensive instincts and a superior shot that is easily one of the best in the game, if not the best. That said, would I want him on our team? My answer is plain and simple, my answer is no. And here is why.
15* Players That People Should Stop Caring About
Jun 28th

This is more of a personal tangent than anything, I’m not going to lie. This isn’t really something that goes in the media (though it kind of does), and it sure as heck isn’t happening in actually front office trade/signing discussions, but its a phenomenon that you definitely see throughout the internet, and that’s fan speculation and trade proposals. Depending on exactly where you go to, the quality of such armchair GM hopes and predictions varies, but its always there. To make matters worse, they seem to always be about the same 20 or 25 players around the NHL. And most of them are complete and total pipe dream’s, for various reasons. So here’s 13 of them that I frankly just can’t stand hearing rumors for, plus 2 bonuses.
Howard Berger is a Tool.

Another post that I guest wrote on Pension Plan Puppets..wasn’t as seen though, so its up here now. Enjoy!

Alright, I’m not one to start completely ripping on known members of the media for no apparent reason. While sometimes people say stupid things that I disagree with, you also know that they must’ve done things in the past that got them to where they are today.
I do make one exception to this, and its Howard Berger. The Fan590 reporter and HockeyBuzz writer is one of many who has made a name for themselves, and have kept themselves relevant in the past few years by consistently looking at negative aspects of the team with next to no exception. What seperates him from, say, a Damien Cox though, is the fact that he is seemingly never not on a mission to bash the team, and never really praises or acts neutral with team decisions. Cox can write the occasion article that’s positive, or at least merely an informative news piece (though he’s still generally a dick and negative as a whole). As can the rest of the media. But with the exception of his reporting on the new Leafs jerseys, Berger spends his entire time writing at a practical vendetta against the team. Hell, it wouldn’t shock me if the jersey reporting was entirely for the purpose of undermining the official announcement. Not to mention the fact that he pretty much spends every press conference looking for ways to try to slam Ron Wilson/Brian Burke/Whatever Player is There/The Audio Technician, to the point where we got this gem a while back:
Defending Burke and the Kessel Trade! Part 1 of 3
Jun 22nd
Ever since Montreal GAVE AWAY Jaroslav Halak, living in Montreal as a Leafs fan has been pretty fun. And yes I said gave away, not traded. (Don’t get me wrong Eller could be a good player, but definitely not enough value to trade away the guy who single-handedly won them 2 playoff series, but that’s a whole other article). The point is that the first 24 hours after this move were incredibly enjoyable for me, because being a Leafs fan was a good thing here in Montreal, however that tide has turned quickly. All that I hear about now the last few days is 2 numbers. The first is “67”, which obviously represents the last time Toronto has won the cup, which doesn’t effect me at all because I am only 24 years old, and I wasn’t even old enough to truly appreciate hockey in 1993 (the last time the Habs won). So that argument has lost it’s effect on me, however the other number being thrown around to attack the leafs is the dreaded number 2. Which is obviously to rub in the fact that Brian Burke, in their opinion, has ruined the future of this franchise by dealing away the number 2 pick in this years draft. I have noticed in fact, that this view is not only popular in Montreal, but that a few Leafs fans have also began to get onto this bandwagon, and have started bashing Burke for this move. Some even saying that Brian Burke’s ego, and his desire for attention has ruined Toronto’s future, and that the Phil Kessel trade was one of the worst trades in recent history. I will defend the move made by Burke, and even go onto explain how Toronto is better off in the long run, because of Burke. As stated above I will write 3 article’s on this subject before the draft on Friday.
