A Chat With Wilson.
Aug 25th
Well, lately some news have indeed surfaced regarding our favorite blue team. Unfortunately, the news aren’t related to trades, Leafs getting stronger or anything positive really. It all started when Kaberle’s dad supposedly told a Czech newspaper that he doesn’t believe his son will play for the Maple Leafs for the entire 2010-11 NHL season. This doesn’t come as much a surprise to many, since having a big portion of the cap spent on our defensive core and not having enough top six forwards still signals trade. Trade which we have speculated for over half a year now seems inevitable. So what is this about? Every Kaberle interview that I’ve seen or heard was with a loyal tone and regret when asked how he would feel about leaving Toronto. So why this sudden change of heart? I’m not one to speculate too much so I’ll try to keep this short.
About Kaberle…
Aug 17th
As you may or may not know, Kaberle is not among my favorite Leafs. Not by a mile. He is a turnover machine that can’t defend like an All Star defenseman should and his only asset are his puck moving abilities that make him a beast on the PP. Be it a beast that’s afraid to shoot the puck. I don’t know how many times have I caught myself yelling at the computer screen (yes that’s how I watch my games) – shoot, shoot, only to see him pass the puck along with the opportunity to put one on net. The main thing that always bugged me is not any of the aforementioned stuff. It is his lack of will to compete. All that said, I guess you believe that I’m really angry about Kaberle staying with our favorite club. You couldn’t be more wrong.
No News, Just Rants.

Ah, here we are, that point that every hockey fan hates to see. Nothing. Is. Happening. But, I’m glad to say that the worst is probably behind us. The Leafs are bound to make some more moves as time moves on. Starcraft 2 and Mass Effect 2 are good distractions from hockey but let’s face it, it doesn’t even come close. So what do you do? You get up every morning thinking ok, this is the day, the day that your favorite blue team makes a eye popping trade. Instead, Kovalchuk hasn’t signed yet. Kovalchuk’s deal isn’t finalized. Arbitrator still undecided. No blue in sight. The question becomes not who, cause I think most of you will agree, we have exhausted all the possible options, but rather when. This will be a short overview of the situation the Leafs are in right now.
Trends, a Leaf’s Best Friend
Jul 2nd
The label “New NHL” has been in use since the lockout ended. It commonly refers to the new rules implemented by the NHL which favor an attacking brand of hockey, opening space for elite players and clamping down on hooking, holding and interference offenders. However, I’ve noticed a number of trends that could be called mutations of the new NHL. These trends seemed to have continued during the so called free agency frenzy. Having in mind the effects it could have on our Leafs, here is my take on some of these phenomena.
Perfect Fit?
Jun 27th
What constitutes as a perfect fit? Is it the chemistry with the linemates, matching voice in the locker room, or capturing the spirit of a given team? I guess it’s a little of everything. Whatever the main ingrident is, I’m pretty sure Marc Savard would be just that on our current Leafs roster. I’d like to start by addressing the trade rumors surrounding Savard. The main rumor is that he’s going to be traded to the Leafs for something other than Tomas Kaberle. Let’s speculate shall we.
Kaberle traded for State of Minnesota
Jun 25th
Tomas Kaberle, the only player on the Toronto Maple Leafs with more than two years spent playing for the team, has been traded to the United States of America for the entire State of Minnesota.
Kaberle, along with throw-in and Toronto Marlies team Captain Ben Ondrus, are heading to the North American nation in exchange for Minnesota, the thirty second state in the United States Union. The twelfth largest by area, and twenty first by population, Minnesota is most well known to Canadians for being a border state of Manitoba and Ontario, and for their hockey teams – the Minnesota North Stars of 1967 to 1993, and the Wild of 2001 to present.
Who Fits?
Jun 19th

It’s going to be a wild wild summer. We will continue to watch every news report, every rumor in hope that the Blue and White have gotten bigger, stronger, meaner and more skillful. We will get up every morning hoping for some news, some glimpse of a major trade. Yes, the draft will indeed be a big deal and I suspect our magic man, Mr. Brian Burke will try to get us a top pick. I will put an emphasis on try, because getting a top pick in a draft as deep as this, with only two solid but not spectacular assets to trade (Nikolai Kulemin and Tomas Kaberle) will not be a cakewalk. However, don’t think for a second Burke can’t get it done. But, realizing the degree of difficulty of getting a top 10 pick, one finds some problems in envisioning a trade that would get us that pick without giving too much away. Yes I’m talking about a Schenn + deal. Instead, getting the right player, with the right mindset and skillset, via trades and free agency will be the focal point of this article. Hope you enjoy it.
Ilya Kovalchuk Isn’t That Impossible
Jun 18th

With the Leafs having a forward core that’s been described as absolutely brutal, and one of the most pathetic that has ever graced the NHL from a team that wasn’t within its first 2-3 years of existence, there is a lot of hype over what Brian Burke will do with this roster that has promise for the future, but no zing for the now. People are undecided if the big move is going to happen via trade, or via free agency. Personally, I think we’re going to see a little bit of both. Do I have any idea whatsoever the results are going to be? No clue. But do I have any wants?
Absolutely. In fact, I have the biggest want, with my eyes entirely on the big prize. Specifically, I want the man who just might be the best free agent in NHL history, all factors considered (more on that later). Of course, I’m talking about #17 of the New Jersey Devils (you know him better as the only relavent thing the Atlanta Thrashers have had in years) Ilya Kovalchuk.
Now, I know what you’re thinking “Jeff, first off, best UFA ever? You’re crazy. Secondly, he’s going to want too much money, thirdly, he’s going to the KHL, fourth, Burke doesn’t want him, and five, why would he want to come here?”
All fair arguments. But I’m still going to try to squash them.
