I’m pretty sick of trying to sound all formal and stuff, and making my articles look polished and all that. That being said, I really don’t want to spend a lot of time on an article that has some point but not a lot of depth, so let’s get straight to it.
A week or two ago the Leafs traded for Kris Versteeg. He’s a top-six foward, a right-winger to be exact. He was nominated for the Calder Trophy in 2008-2009 after a pretty impressive rookie campaign but last year his points dipped off because of the depth chart on a stacked Stanley Cup-winning team. First it was up, then it was down for Kris Versteeg and his so far short NHL career…so what should we expect from him next year?
Well, read on to find out.

Rumor
Various reports today coming mainly from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN and Darren Dreger of TSN suggest that the Leafs have four concrete offers in place for Tomas Kaberle but they report that Brian Burke has said, “nothing is imminent”. Pierre LeBrun very recently tweeted that he believes Buffalo and Los Angeles are among the many teams seriously interested in Kaberle.
My Analysis
Aside from Tyler Myers and an ailing Craig Rivet the Sabres are more or less empty on the blueline, so acquiring a guy who can actually move the puck with finesse from the back-end would be huge for them.
As for Los Angeles, they’re clearly not willing to be patient with a guy like Thomas Hickey to help man the PP with Drew Doughty and are seemingly looking to win now.
Other teams that are speculated to have interest in Kaberle are Columbus, Boston, New Jersey and Vancouver. What any of these teams could actually offer up for Kaberle remains to be seen.
The draft is tomorrow and it’s widely speculated that it will be Kaberle’s judgement day, so don’t be surprised if the rampant rumors finally come to an end by tomorrow night.

“I think I can score 40.” – Phil Kessel

That’s straight from an article the Star posted yesterday (don’t worry, not by Damien Cox) showcasing an interview that the established newspaper had with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ most debated star sniper.
Now that’s all fine and dandy that Phil Kessel feels more comfortable in Toronto now, that he’s training more thoroughly this summer and that he seems genuinely interested in winning hockey games, but can the Madison Flash really accomplish what the likes of Alex Semin, Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Gaborik did this past season?
Well, let’s take a further look in the only way I know how: More >
